Fort Mose Awards and Honors Fort Mose Historic State Park and Fort Mose Historical Society continue to receive local, national and international honors and recognition. These include, to date: 1991: Designation as a a premier site on the Florida Black Heritage Trail In 1990, the Florida legislature created the Study Commission on African-American History in Florida to increase public awareness of the many contributions of African Americans to the state. The commission identified significant sites, buildings and other points of black history that should be preserved as cultural resources.

The first edition of The Florida Black Heritage Trail, published in 1991, listed Fort Mose as a premier site amongst scores of African-American landmarks and legacies that exist in various Florida locations. This important publication was a product of the Study Commission on African-American History in Florida and the Florida Division of Historical Resources, with important support and contributions from many concerned citizens..

Released in May 2007, this third edition of the Florida Black Heritage Trail was produced by VISIT FLORIDA, the Florida Department of State and the Florida African American Heritage Preservation Network. It features 64 colorful pages highlighting historic African-American sites from Pensacola to Key West as well as profiles and biographical sketches of many distinguished and accomplished African-American Floridians.
